The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides more than $22 billion a year in funding to an estimated 500,000 Australians who have permanent and significant disability
What does the NDIS offer?
The NDIS offers significant choice to participants to take control of their disability needs and select the carers and support right for them.
Funding is allocated based on your type of disability needs, not your income or capital. The NDIS does not affect other income support you’re receiving, including the Disability Support Pension and Carers Allowance.
Who is eligible for NDIS funding?
You may be eligible for NDIS funding if you:
- Are aged between 7 and 65
- Live in Australia and have Australian residency
- Usually need support from a person because of a permanent and significant disability, and/or
- Use special equipment because of a permanent and significant disability, and/or
- Need some supports now to reduce your future needs.

What other disability funding is available?
Paramount Care Solutions compliment and support other funding and institutional support provided to NDIS participants.
This includes working with providers of workers compensation insurance, such as iCare, the Commonwealth Home Support Program, Family and Community Services, the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care Services (NSW), the State Funded Disability Support Programs or Self-funded Disability Support Programs.
What does funding pay for?
The NDIS plan can pay for funding for:
Your daily living needs. This includes carers, help with household chores, transport, and some household living expenses for things like accommodation and more.
Capacity building supports to improve skills and independence, from involvement in community and learning activities to specialized therapy.
Capital to improve access and independence, such as disability support equipment.

How do I apply?
If you meet the eligibility criteria, there are two ways you can apply for NDIS funding. You can either call NDIA on 1800 800 110 to make a Verbal Access Request (VAR) or fill out a paper Access Request Form (ARF).
What documentation is required?
1. Completed Access Request Form (ARF) – ask your Local Area Coordinator, Early Childhood Early Intervention partner (if your child is under 7), your local NDIA office or call NDIA 1800 800 110 to receive a form.
2. Age and residency evidence – Tip: If you’re registered for Centrelink, you can give the NDIA consent to use your Centrelink record.
3. Disability evidence and how it impacts your everyday life – Tip: Ask your healthcare professional to complete Part F of ARF or an NDIA Supporting Evidence form.
4. Any existing reports or assessments.
A special note to those NDIS participants turning 65:
When NDIS participants turn 65, they have the option to stay in the scheme or apply to receive support aged care services.
